It starts with a laugh, a rhyme, a chant from the stands. But for many LGBTI+ people in football including players, fans, and referees these words cut deeper than the scoreboard.

Homophobic chanting isn’t harmless banter. It’s hate speech. It builds a culture where difference is mocked, exclusion is normalised, and young players learn that being LGBTI+ means you don’t belong on the pitch.
