Kaleidoscope Trust has released a new report examining the scale and impact of online harms targeting LGBTI+ people around the world. From hate speech and misinformation to coordinated digital harassment, the findings reveal a disturbing pattern: harmful narratives spread online are fuelling real-world violence, undermining mental health, and eroding fundamental freedoms. The report also details how state and non-state actors are weaponising online spaces to entrap, out, and intimidate LGBTI+ individuals in hostile environments.
While the internet remains a vital tool for advocacy and community building, the research warns that without urgent action, it risks becoming an increasingly dangerous space for those it once empowered. Our report calls for stronger regulation, platform accountability, and practical steps that governments, tech companies, and civil society can take now to protect LGBTI+ communities.
