Last week, Kaleidoscope Trust brought together activists, partners, supporters and colleagues for its Annual Reception, offering a timely opportunity to meet at the start of the year, take stock, and recommit to moving forward together in solidarity.

This year’s gathering took place against an increasingly challenging global backdrop. Across continents, LGBTI+ communities are facing a rolling crisis, as well-resourced authoritarian movements coordinate across borders to roll back rights. The need for coordinated global action has never been more urgent.

We are thankful to Tata for sponsoring the event, and our Patron, Michael Gunning, for hosting the evening.

The evening also marked the announcement of two new Commissioners joining The Global LGBTI+ Rights Commission.

Nozizwe brings invaluable regional insight from Botswana and the wider Southern African context, supporting efforts to navigate post-decriminalisation environments and ensure that legal progress results in meaningful freedoms for LGBTI+ communities.

Henry Edward Tse is the founder of Transgender Equality Hong Kong and is widely recognised for his role in successfully overturning the “full sex reassignment” requirement for gender marker changes on Hong Kong National Identification documents.

Their appointments bring vital frontline experience from Southern Africa and East Asia to the Commission at a critical moment for the global movement.

The evening concluded with the presentation of the annual Lifetime Achievement Awards to Caroline Paige MBE and Louis-Georges Tin.

We were delighted to celebrate Caroline Paige’s trailblazing career as the first openly serving transgender officer in the British Armed Forces and her enduring leadership on inclusion, alongside Louis-Georges Tin’s extraordinary global impact as the founder of the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, now recognised in over 130 countries worldwide.

It was a privilege to honour both recipients in person and recognise the lasting legacy of their courage, leadership and service.

While challenges facing LGBTI+ communities continue to grow, collective action, strategic investment and global solidarity remain essential to advancing equality worldwide.

This is a new year and a new chapter.
