First Ministers for Scotland and Wales endorse Kaleidoscope Trust

We are delighted to have received messages of support on our launch day from the First Ministers of Scotland and Wales and the TUC.

Alex Salmond, First Minister for Scotland said:

The Scottish Government is delighted to welcome the establishment of Kaleidoscope and your efforts to address the inequalities lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people face worldwide.

The Rt. Hon Carwyn Jones, First Minister of Wales, said:

I’m very pleased to be able to offer my support to you as you strive to eradicate discrimination and advance equality and diversity across the World.

As a country, significant strides have been made over the last 10 years in advancing the equality agenda. But we can, and must, do more both at home and abroad.

As a government, we make every effort to ensure that as we develop policies, strategies, action plans and practices, our efforts actively contribute to an environment that is free from discrimination.

Indeed, we are proud that we are one the few Governments in the world that is legally bound to ensure equality of opportunity in everything that we do.

We believe that no-one should be denied opportunities because of their sexual orientation or because they are transgender, and are committed to ensuring equal treatment for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in Wales. Following the enactment of the Equality Act 2010, the Welsh Government became the first Government in the UK to bring specific public sector equality duties into effect – which will help us promote equality, tackle discrimination and prejudice and help build a fair and tolerant society in Wales.

I wish you every success.
