In the current context of uncertainty and financial duress for civil society globally, this programme’s overall goal is to safeguard and consolidate hard-won progress towards LGBTI+ equality in the Commonwealth, through the steady and continued support of LGBTI+ civil society where it is most needed.
This programme builds on the success of previous work implemented collaboratively with The Commonwealth Equality Network since 2020 to provide a needs-based response to the disproportionate impact of Covid-19 on LGBT+ communities in the Commonwealth. In particular, through an ambitious capacity-building and grant-making scheme, we aim to increase civil society’s capacity to sustainably protect and advance LGBT+ rights locally and to generate increased visibility of LGBT+ issues in the UK, the Commonwealth and elsewhere in the world.
Despite its global reach, this project focuses on delivering on-the-ground activities in eight countries in Africa, Asia and the Pacific and will benefit 31 different LGBTI+ organisations through a range of capacity-building interventions in different Commonwealth countries.
This programme is funded by the UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
