The promotion of the respect of human rights is fundamental to the work of Kaleidoscope Trust, and we express our solidarity with Black people everywhere who are demanding justice, accountability, meaningful change and long overdue equality.
Through our work with The Commonwealth Equality Network, we are painfully aware of the ongoing and specific discrimination, victimisation and fear that impact the everyday experience for Black LGBTI+ people around the world.
The horrific death of George Floyd, the ongoing persecution of Black LGBTI+ people, and the global protests that have erupted in support of Black lives and Black trans lives, demonstrate that it is no longer enough for societies to turn a blind eye to the injustices faced by Black people. It is time for governments to take immediate, concrete and transparent steps to address racism, discrimination, homophobia and transphobia, and police brutality.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights must be upheld in relation to all Black people. To live without fear is a fundamental human right.
